Second World Festival of Masonic Arts
Apollo Festival of Masonic Arts is a World Celebration of the Symbolic Culture of the Freemasonry, organized by the Association of Masonic Arts, and hosted by different Grand Lodges around the world. The main purpose of the Festival is to present the centuries-old Masterpieces of the Craft and Contemporary Art products, made by Brethren from different Cultures and countries, in front of our global society.
Apollo 2018 includes:
*General Exhibition of Masterpieces of Masonic and Symbolic Fine Arts. Presentation of the History of Grand Lodges, Masonic Libraries, and Museums, Masonic Authors, and Artists.
*Lectures and presentations on the History and Contemporary development of the Symbolic and Masonic Arts and Material Culture. We welcome papers by Writers and Researchers from all around the world. The papers will be published in Catalog of the Symbolic Arts.
*Concerts, Musicals, Dramas. The Stage is open to all Musicians and Performers of Symbolic and Masonic Art
*Student Contests at Poetry, Fine Arts, Music and Short documentary movies.
*Lunches, Dinners, Cocktails, Awards.
*Fellowship time.
The First Apollo Festival was hosted by the Grand Orient of Brazil from September 15th to 20th, 2015 in the beautiful city of Brasilia. The Festival was under the patronage of the Sovereign Grand Master MW Brother Marcos Jose da Silvia, who was the First recipient of the Thomas W. Jackson Award for Masonic Leadership -the highest prize given by the Association of Masonic Arts, in recognition of the personal Achievements and dedication to the Symbolic Culture of the Craft.
The Grand Ambassador to South America RW Brother Paolo Koo presented some of the best talented Masonic musicians, artists, writers from different parts of the World, who dedicated their life to the noble cause to present the rich Symbolism of the Brotherhood, using all artistic tools and techniques. At the time of the Festival were presented Masonic artifacts from more than 50 countries and 75 Grand Lodges. The Exhibition of the Festival contained more than 1,200 artifacts, was visited by more than 3,000 people for the first 5 days and received the full support from the Grand Orient of Brazil to stay open for general public and in the future.

Apollo Festival of Masonic Arts is a World Celebration of the
Symbolic Culture of the Freemasonry, organized by the Association of

General Rules
The Organizing Committee of the “Artistic-Cultural Apollo Contest,” henceforth referred to as the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018, in the exercise of its duties, ANNOUNCES:
CHAPTER I
Art. 1 The Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018 will be hosted by the Association of Masonic Arts.
Art. 2 The Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018 is intended to reward culturally artistic work, pieces or compositions whose themes must relate to Masonic and Symbolic Art, Masonic history, Masonic culture, Masonic traditions, or famous Masonic figures who have contributed to the progress of humanity.
Art. 3 The Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018 will cover the following areas with their relevance to artistic and cultural expressions:
I – Area I – Poetry;
II – Area II – Fine arts: paintings, graphics or sculptures;
III – Area III – Short Documentary movie;
IV – Area IV – Music: musical composition, which by the choice of the author could consist lyrics.
CHAPTER II
Section I: The Organizing Committee
Art. 4 The Organizing Committee of the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018 will be composed of the directors of the Association of Masonic Arts, and Members of the Executive Committee of the Festival Apollo-2018.
Art. 5 The Organizing Committee is responsible for:
I – disseminating the present Rules of the Student Art Contest;
II – providing the means necessary for registration and retrieval of the culturally artistic work, pieces or compositions of the candidates;
III – electing the Judging Committee;
IV – reserving the space for the Judging Committee meetings and providing the means necessary for their work.
V – organizing the presentation and the exhibition of the culturally artistic work, pieces or compositions necessary for the proper implementation of the purposes of the competition.
VI – organizing the award ceremony;
VII –forwarding the work of the awarded artists to publishing;
VIII – carrying out the implementation of all the stages of the competition.
Section II
Art. 6 These are the official Rules of the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018, and the following regulations must be followed:
I – The Competition is intended to reveal Young Talents of all ages from different countries around the World, as long as they are not professionals in the selected area.
II – important dates for the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018:
a – deadline for application/registration with free text in e-mail, presenting the biography of the Student with his/her age and School or College information, and for which category is applying, begins on September 1, 2017 and ends on December 31, 2017. The e-mail has to be send to the Executive Secretary of the Association of Masonic Arts Dimitar Mavrov at: [email protected]
b – deadline for submission of the art works: begins on March 1, 2018 and ends on May 1, 2018;
c – deadline for scoring the work: begins on May 10, 2018 and ends on May 12, 2018.
d – date of announcement of results and awards: May 13, 2018.
III – The Competition covers the following areas:
a – Area I – Poetry: the text has to be no longer than 2 pages A4 for 1 work. Every Student can participate in the Contest with 1to 3 original works;
b – Area II – Fine arts: paintings, graphics or sculptures. The paintings or graphics have to be in format 16 x 20 inches; and the sculptures no bigger than 6 x 6 x 12 inches. Every Student can participate in the Contest with 1 to 3 original works;
c – Area III – Short Documentary movie – no longer than 5:00 minutes. Every Student can participate in the Contest with 1 to 3 original works;
d – Area IV – Music: musical composition, which by the choice of the author could consist lyrics. The composition has to be no longer than 3:00 minutes. Every Student can participate in the Contest with 1 to 3 original works;
IV – Individuals prohibited from participation in the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018:
a – professionals in any of the competition areas, since the Contest APOLLO is intended for young talented amateurs.
b – any member of the Organizing or Judging Committee of the Contest APOLLO – 2018;
c – people with family relationship to the 3rd (third) degree with any member of the Organizing or Judging Committee for Contest APOLLO – 2018;
d – any employee of the Association of Masonic Arts;
e – any member, professional or volunteer participating, integrating, composing or in any way performing any activity related in any way to the organization of FESTIVAL APOLLO.
V – Winners must present the following documents prior to result announcement:
a – personal documents (License, ID card, Passport);
b – authorization and signature of the legal guardians of the terms contained in these Rules, if the winner is a minor;
c – signature of the winner or their legal guardians of the liability waiver affirming the originality of the culturally artistic work, piece or composition presented.
d – signature from the winner or legal guardians declaring that the candidate is not a professional.
VI – the following criteria is established for judgment in all areas of the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018:
a – technical quality will be given a score between 0 and 10;
b – fidelity towards the specified theme for the competition will be given a score between 0 and 10.
c – creativity will be given a score between 0 and 10; and
d – originality will be given a scored between 0 and 10.
VII – the winners of each area will have the highest score after combining the individual scores of all criteria categories.
VIII – in the event of a tie between two or more candidates in one of the same areas, the following criteria will apply to break the tie:
a – highest score in originality;
b – highest score in creativity;
c – highest score in fidelity to the theme; and
d – highest score in technical quality;
IX – if the tie persists, the Chairman of the Board of the Directors and the Executive Secretary of the Association of Masonic Arts will elect the winner;
X – the results are final and not subject to appeal, unless there was a material error. Appeals must be filed within 5 (five) days of publication of the results;
XI – an award of US $ 1,000.00 (one thousand dollars), offered by the Association of Masonic Arts, will be given to the winner of each area specified herein.
XII – the established Competition theme:

Section III: Presentation of the artistic work pieces or compositions
Art. 7

In the case of mailing, we will accept the works until the last day of the application deadline as per the date of the stamp of posting.
Section IV: Judgment
Art. 8 The Judging Committees will be elected by the Organizing Committee and will be composed of 3 members.
I – participation of the same judge in more than one Jury is prohibited.
II – The President of each Jury shall be elected by his or her peers of the Jury.
Art. 9 The Judging Committees maintain confidentiality about their activities until the time of announcing the results.
Art. 10 Evaluations of the Judging Committees shall meet the following criteria:
a – technical quality will be given a score between 0 and 10;
b – fidelity towards the specified theme for the competition will be given a score between 0 and 10;
c – creativity will be given a score between 0 and 10; and
d – originality will be given a scored between 0 and 10.
Art. 11 The results are final and not subject to appeal, unless there was a material error. Appeals must be filed within 5 (five) days of publication of the results.
Section V: The Awards
Art. 12 One (1) prize of $ 1,000.00 (one thousand dollars) will be awarded to the winner of each area.
Art. 13 The award ceremony will be held in Solemn Session in the General Exhibition Hall at Festival Apollo-2018 on May 13th from 09:00 am to 12:00 am.
Section VI: Copyright
Art. 14 To the Association of Masonic Arts is granted the right to use all works, pieces and compositions entered in the competition and freely use them at exhibitions, events, for printed and institutional advertising, indefinitely and without restrictions, impediments, or covenants of any kind, and without any remuneration, compensation or reimbursement of any kind for copyright or derivative copyright.
CHAPTER III
General Provisions
Art. 15 Participation in the Student Art Contest APOLLO – 2018 implies a broad, general and unrestricted acceptance of the rules contained in these Rules.
Art. 16 These Rules oblige its registered participants, heirs, assigns, and successors.
Art. 17 Submission of the works, pieces or compositions in the competition is final, irreversible, and irrevocable and does not contain cancellation rights.
Art. 18 Any questions or omissions arising out of these Rules shall be addressed by the Organizing Committee.
